The Customs of Astara Port Special Economic Zone was set up in order to develop foreign trade and transit and facilitate the work of exporters and merchants in the presence of the Director General of Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province, and provincial and local officials.
According to
the public relations of Ports and
Maritime Authority of Guilan Province, on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 31, Dr. Hamid Reza Abaie,
Director General of Ports and
Maritime Authority of Guilan Province stated at the opening and operation ceremony of the
customs of Astara Port Special Economic Zone: “Astara as a gate to Eurasia has
a special border position and the Ports and Maritime Organization and Kaveh
Company are still planning and investing in Astara port.”
He added: The Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province had provided the entire infrastructure for
the operation of the Astara Port Special Economic Zone since 1397 AH, but the
country's Customs Organization did not enter into this issue due to lack of
facilities and personnel.
Referring to
the importance of setting up the customs of Astara Port Special Economic Zone, Abaie
noted: "In order to attract investors, create job opportunities and
benefit more from the rules and facilities of the Special Economic Zone and
import more goods, we insisted on setting up the customs."
Director
General of Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province, referring to the
role of Astara port in international corridors, stated: “Astara port is
developing and dredging its bed is in the final stages and we welcome anyone
who has the ability in maritime trade to operate in the ports of Guilan in
accordance with the laws and regulations governing special economic and free
zones.”
It is worth
mentioning that the multi-purpose port of Astara with an area of 60 hectares is
the first private sector port in the country.
