Director General of Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province in the commemoration ceremony of World Maritime Day, referring to the 53% growth of loading and unloading operations in Guilan ports in the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year, said: “Large projects of the Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province will be operational in the coming months.”

Relations of the Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province, Dr. Hamidreza
Abaie in the commemoration ceremony of the World Maritime Day stating that more
than 85% of world trade is done by sea, said: “Maritime transport is the safest
and most economical mode of transportation of goods and the lack of attention
of countries to this issue weakens their economies.”
Saying that our beloved
country Iran has enjoyed this divine gift from the north to south, he added:
"The Caspian Sea, as the largest lake in the world, is a potential source
for ecotourism, fishing and agriculture, as well as shipping and trade, and
Anzali port as one of the oldest port in the country, with a history of 100
years, is located on the shores of this sea and has always been a significant
brand for merchants, traders and shipping lines in the northern ports, and has always
been considered the gateway to Europe for the exchange of goods.”
The Director General of
Ports and Maritime Affairs of Gilan Province, referring to the outbreak of the
Corona virus worldwide and its effects on the global economy, said: “Despite
the oppressive sanctions and the outbreak of the Corona virus, which caused us
to experience certain conditions, the maritime community was able to provide
services in the fields of economics, the provision of basic goods and the
prevention of the spread of the disease."
Stating that according to
the mentioned conditions, not only the volume of maritime and port operations
in the ports of the province did not decrease, but also we witnessed a
significant growth, Abaie said: “Loading and unloading operations in the first
six months of this year increased by 53% and container operations increased by
73% compared to the same period last year. In this regard, we should appreciate and thank the colleagues and all the
organs that worked together so that we can play a significant role in the
economy of the country and the region.”
Referring to the slogan
of World Maritime Day entitled "Sustainable Shipping for a Sustainable
Planet", he acknowledged: "Sustainable shipping is the intersection
of the shipping industry, economy and marine environment, and therefore two
general perspectives for sustainable shipping can be imagined: technological
and ecological sustainability, both of these require skilled, professional and
compassionate manpower.”
Exploitation of Large
Projects of the Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province in the Coming Months
Director General and
Director of Astara Port Special Economic Zone, referring to some actions of the
General Administration this year, said: “Dredging Anzali and Astara Ports,
dredging some parts of Anzali Lagoon, localization of the antenna driver
section of the Maritime Traffic Control Tower, launching the handheld system,
Inauguration of 5 projects with a credit of 660 billion Rials in Astara Port
Special Economic Zone on the occasion of Government Week, beautification and
lighting of Anzali Port cranes, completion of sidewalks and furniture in
western breakwater of Anzali Port, donation of medical and health supplies to
many medical centers and hospitals in different cities as well as winning the
position of the top executive body of the province in Shahid Rajaei Festival
were among these cases.”
Stating that in the
coming months, large projects will be inaugurated and put into operation in
Anzali Port Complex, Abaie said: “by examining the needs of the market and also
using the power of the private sector, the issue of building and equipping
Bandar Anzali infrastructure was on the agenda. These include the opening of a
45,000-ton grain silo, a 4,500-square-meter general cargo depot, a 200-meter-long
and 50-meter-long general cargo wharf, and two oil dolphin wharves for mooring
ships up to 180 meters long.”
Emphasizing the need to
use indoor wharves in Anzali Port, he continued: "Considering the amount
of rainfall in Anzali Port, we intend to build a terminal for all seasons and
indoor wharves with the cooperation of the private sector."
Development of Port Cooperation
between Iran and Caspian Littoral Countries
Director General of Ports
and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province, referring to the development of port
and maritime cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Caspian
littoral countries, especially Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia, said: “Development
of bilateral port and maritime cooperation, more efficient use of multimodal
transportation as well as proper planning for round trip ships was on the
agenda.”
Referring to the role of
the national fleet, the number of Iranian fleets and sailors, the need to
reduce the use of non-Iranian forces, the necessity to use the organization's
capacity and allocate managed funds and offer discounts to container ships,
especially refrigerated container ships, Ro-Ro ships, passenger ships and
general cargo ships as well as maritime tourism, he stated: “By creating
maritime security, which shows the authority of the powerful strategic forces
of the Islamic Republic Army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, we can
use the facilities and potentials of naval schools to train specialized forces
in the field of navigation and use of marine fish resources.”
Numbering of
two-stroke engines in Anzali Port as a Pilot Project
In another part of his
speech, referring to the facilities of naval schools, the number of maritime
competency certificates that are issued for different categories, effective
measures in launching shipping simulators, repairing and operating engines, the
need to train specialized personnel in port logistics courses and other related
courses, creating simulators for strategic equipment and the use of advanced
port cranes, especially for container operations, Abaie said: “In order to
organize the traffic of sea vessels and also to organize the statistical status
of two-stroke engines, after receiving the approval of the government board,
the numbering of the hull of these engines began. Among all ports in the
country, this action was carried out as a pilot project in Anzali Port.”
In another part of his
speech, the Director General of Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province
emphasized on the need to preserve the marine environment as a basis for the
sustainability of marine ecology. Referring to the facilities and equipment to
deal with marine pollution, he addressed the recent action of Bandar Anzali in
launching the Pak Boom vessel using the power of the private sector and
stressed the need to set up and use an industrial treatment plant.
Referring to the measures
taken to accurately and timely monitoring of physical and chemical parameters
of seawater, canals and lagoons, wave flowmetry and deposition method, sediment
deposition and sediment volume reduction, Abaie reminded: “In this regard, the
necessary measures have been taken to conclude study contracts and obtain
scientific opinions and advice to use methods based on scientific perspectives,
which requires cooperation between the agencies, especially the Environment and
Fisheries Organization.”
In the end, he pointed
out the lesser-regarded area of maritime tourism and the need for special
efforts to set up a marina and maritime passenger terminal using the power of
the private sector.
