Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization, referring to the lack of any restrictions to use the capacity of Astara Special Economic Zone, said: “5% of loading and unloading of goods in the northern ports is done in Astara port complex.”
According to
the Public Relations Department of the Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan
Province, Mohammad Rastad visited the Special Economic Zone of Astara Port on
Wednesday afternoon, June 9, emphasizing that all legal formalities have been
done to turn Astara Port into a Special Economic Zone, stated: “There are no
restrictions on enjoying legal benefits and facilities in this area.”
He added:
"Currently, 5% of the loading and unloading of goods in the northern ports
of the country is done in Astara Port Complex, and this important port in the
north of the country is witnessing significant growth."
Rastad, stating
that in the Astara Special Economic Zone, it is possible to import goods
without any restrictions, added: “Astara port as a commercial port by using the
legal benefits of the Special Economic Zone can play a very important role in
the process of import and export of goods, including import of raw materials
and exports Products that have added value.”
The CEO of the
Ports and Maritime Organization stated: "According to the laws, the
special economic zones are not considered as customs territory and it is
possible to import goods in them without any restrictions."
He continued:
"The main commercial ports of our country are special economic zones and
tax exemptions in special economic zones help to develop ports and increase and
attract the share of the maritime transport market in the country."
It is worth
mentioning that the multi-purpose port of Astara with an area of 60 hectares on
the Caspian Sea coast is the first private port in the country and has been
operating since March 2013.
