Iran's Presence in Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a Strong Point for the Country's Ports / Special Capacity of Iran's Northern Ports for Transit of Goods and Provision of Services to Shanghai Coop
Director General of Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province, noting that the presence in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can be a strong point for the country's ports, said: "Northern ports of Iran have a special and effective capacity for transit of goods and can operate efficiently."

Dr. Hamidreza Abaie in an interview with the information base of the Ports and Maritime Organization regarding Iran's accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and what role Iranian ports and Iran's maritime transport industry (with a focus on northern ports) can play in achieving the goals of this organization in ports and maritime sector, said: "Given the sanctions against our country and the recent changes in Afghanistan, as well as the serious determination of the 13th government to restore the country's economic situation, there is a good opportunity in this field" .

He continued: "Iran's accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can create an opportunity to be active in the field of maritime transport, which has a significant share in the country's transit, with a more and better capacity."

Director General of Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province, emphasizing the country's maritime transport capacity, said: “Forecasts made in the country's development industries show that there is a possibility of transit of up to 30 million tons of goods through the country's ports and northern ports, given their circumstances, can be very strategic and effective in the transit of goods.”

The Role of Northern Ports from Astara to Amirabad

In response to the question, what is the capacity of the country's ports, especially the northern ports, for combined transportation with the Caspian littoral states, the CIS countries and Eurasia? Abaie said: "One of the most important issues is that there are good ports in the north of the country and these active ports can play a dominant role from Astara to Amirabad."

Stating that in the northern ports of the country, there is a navy that is serving with the Iranian flag, he added: “the applicant countries in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are landlocked and therefore we can use the port and maritime capacities of our country in the best way.”

Director General of Ports and Maritime Authority of Guilan Province, regarding the benefits of Iran's accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for the development of the country's northern ports and maritime transport, explained: “It is important to use the capacities of the country's ports and what can be mentioned about Anzali port is the strategic position of this port, which has played a role in transit corridors in the past. In addition, in the field of tourism and customs, cooperation with member countries and observers in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can be developed.”

The Need for Special Attention to Tourism Capacities

Pointing out that Anzali Port has a capacity of up to 10.5 million tons for operations and has suitable facilities in the field of storage, loading and unloading operations, Abaie said: “We hope to serve all the economic actors of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the best way, and with this very important action of the 13th government and the leap that we will see in the economic structure of the country, we will use the specialized potentials and capabilities of the country's ports.”

He added: "At the same time, using the tourism capacities of Chamkhaleh port, Anzali port marina and the existing capacity in Caspian Port are other issues that we should pay serious attention to them."
